Apprenticeships

Functional Skills are one of the key elements that make up the overall apprenticeship qualification and are designed to provide learners with the essential skills needed that are transferrable in life, learning, development and work. The workbooks provide support and guidance that will enable learners to be better prepared to take their assessment.

In addition to this, the workbooks can also be used as a diagnostic tool to aid tutors in determining the learners’ levels of attainment and what steps they might need to take to progress.

Standalone Qualifications

In September 2012 Functional Skills replaced Key and Basic skills and as well as one of the elements in the apprenticeship framework they are also delivered as qualifications in their own right.  They have been designed to be more challenging than their predecessor (Key and Basic) with a focus on the underpinning skills and knowledge that allow learners to take into everyday life.  The workbooks provide guidance to both the learner and tutor with delivery and learning in a methodical and user-friendly way.

Pre -Employment

Using the workbooks as a free initial diagnostic tool allows you to understand the level that your learners are currently working at. The workbooks are designed to help bridge the skills gap and support the government’s agenda in better preparing people for the world of work.
